In a significant gesture of goodwill, Hon. (Dr.) Oladipupo Olatunde Adebutu, the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 Ogun State elections, has donated a brand-new 500KVA transformer to the Ogun State PDP Secretariat and its surrounding community. The donation, made on Saturday, March 8, 2025, brings an end to 13 years of darkness in the area.
The power outage had persisted since 2012, when the former administration of Senator Ibikunle Amosun carried out expansion work on the Abeokuta-Kobape road, leading to the removal of the transformer that previously served the area. The PDP Secretariat, located on Ibrahim Babangida Boulevard opposite the NNPC Mega Station, and nearby buildings were left without electricity for over a decade.
Hon. Adebutu’s donation included all necessary equipment to ensure the immediate energization and use of the transformer. This act of generosity has been widely praised as a relief to residents and staff who have endured years of hardship due to the lack of power.
The PDP Ogun State Chapter, in a statement signed by its Chairman, Hon. Rotn Abayomi Tella, expressed deep gratitude to Adebutu, who has now donated over 600 transformers across the state. The party commended his unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people and his dedication to the development of the party.
The statement also criticized the previous administration for its failure to restore power to the area after the road project, describing it as an act of insensitivity. The PDP urged beneficiaries to make good use of the facility and called on other party members and stakeholders to emulate Adebutu’s philanthropic spirit in supporting the party’s growth and the well-being of the people.
