ABUJA – The Executive Chairman of Obafemi Owode Local Government in Ogun State, Ambassador Adesina Lanre Ogunsola, has been honoured as the third-best local government chairman in Nigeria.
The recognition was conferred at the 25th edition of the Local Government Chairmen Merit Award (LOGMA) 2025, held at the Nigerian National Merit Award House in Maitama, Abuja.
Ambassador Ogunsola was decorated by the Federal Minister of Agriculture, Senator Abubakar Kiari, after a rigorous assessment that ranked his leadership and the council’s performance third out of all 774 local governments in the country. The award celebrates the most outstanding performing local government chairmen based on their achievements over the course of one year in office.
As part of the honour for being named the Best Local Government Chairman for “quality leadership through service delivery and accountability,” Ogunsola also received an electricity power generator.
In his acceptance speech, the chairman dedicated the awards to God Almighty, the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dr Dapo Abiodun, CON, and the people of Obafemi Owode.
He expressed gratitude to the Governor for his support and for believing in his candidacy for a second term. Ogunsola gave assurances that he would not relent in his dedication to serving the interests of the people and the party.
He also extended his appreciation to the Senator representing Ogun Central, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, and Hon. Afolabi Afuape, a member of the Federal House of Representatives.
During the ceremony, Chief Bayode Ojo, Chairman of the LOGMA Organising Committee, used the opportunity to urge the Federal Government to sustain the Supreme Court judgment on the full implementation of local government autonomy. He stated that this would enable the third tier of government to function more effectively.
The council boss was accompanied to the event by several political functionaries from Obafemi Owode, including the Supervisor for Education, Hon. Oluwole Olusesi, as well as other special advisers and assistants.
