The Executive Chairman of Obafemi Owode Local Government, Amb. Adesina ‘Lanre Ogunsola, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to staff welfare and public service.
He made the declaration while warmly receiving the Chairman and team from the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission on an official tour at the council headquarters in Owode-Egba.
Amb. Ogunsola commended the state-wide initiative of the Commission, describing the on-the-spot assessment as a “good human resource management technique” that would significantly boost employee morale. He lauded the infrastructural strides of Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, acknowledging their positive impact across all local governments.
However, the Chairman raised a critical concern regarding a severe shortage of manpower in Obafemi Owode. He elaborated that the local government has been grappling with a depletion of its workforce due to retirements, resignations, and transfers without replacement, which is adversely affecting productivity.
Highlighting the urgency, Ogunsola revealed that the council has only one Confidential Secretary left, who is set to retire in January 2026. He appealed to the Commission to critically address this staffing deficit to maintain service delivery standards.
Despite these challenges, the Council Boss expressed immense satisfaction with his staff’s dedication and cooperation, crediting them for the local government recently being awarded the 3rd Best Local Government in Nigeria by the Nigerian National Merit Award (LOGMA 2025).
In his response, Hon. Olufemi Adiro, representing the Commission’s Chairman, Barrister Olivia Olubukunola Onabanjo, urged staff to remain good ambassadors and warned against indiscipline and truancy.
The Permanent Secretary, Engr. Adenike Ogunbona, assured the council that the Commission is aware of the manpower issues and that necessary moves are underway, pending official approval. She encouraged staff to remain prudent and professional in their conduct.
Earlier, the Head of Local Government Administration, Ms Adeniji Olufunke, welcomed the delegation and reported a total staff strength of 275. She also outlined strategies to improve Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) through a newly constituted Revenue Task Force.
