ABEOKUTA – Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has commended the Abeokuta Girls’ Grammar School Old Girls’ Association (AGGS OGA) for their vital role in supporting educational development, describing alumni bodies as “key partners in sustainable nation-building.”

The Governor gave the commendation during the 50th Anniversary Celebration Dinner of the AGGS Old Girls’ Association (1975 Set) held at the Daktad Hotel in Abeokuta.

Represented by the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Adijat Adeleye, Governor Abiodun stated that the efforts of alumni groups in complementing government initiatives cannot be overstated.

“Government alone cannot meet all infrastructural and social needs, hence the importance of partnerships like those demonstrated by the AGGS Old Girls,” he said.

He specifically applauded the association for commissioning a newly furnished Junior School Library at their alma mater, noting that such interventions bridge critical gaps in learning and inspire students.

Describing the project as “a shining example of gratitude turned into legacy,” the Governor affirmed that the group’s mentorship and empowerment efforts have significantly strengthened the state’s educational ecosystem.

Governor Abiodun urged younger generations to emulate the selflessness and community spirit of the AGGS ’75 Set, stressing that “true greatness is not measured by what we take from society but by what we give back.” He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to encouraging private and community participation in education and women’s development.

In her remarks, the President of the AGGS OGA ’75 Set, Mrs. Folasade Alatise-Adesoye, stated that the golden jubilee was not merely a celebration of the past but a renewed commitment to giving back.

Represented by the Vice President, Mrs. Kehinde Hamed-Bada, Alatise-Adesoye said, “Today’s event is not just about looking back; it is about giving back. That is why we are proud to commission the refurbished school library, a place of knowledge, inspiration, and discovery.”

She described the old students as custodians of a heritage that must be preserved and strengthened, adding, “The same way our founders invested in us, we must invest in the future.”

The association also expressed its appreciation to Governor Abiodun for his administration’s educational strides and pledged its continued support for the progress of Ogun State.

A major highlight of the event was the presentation of an Award of Excellence to Governor Abiodun by the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, in recognition of his administration’s infrastructural interventions in the education sector.
