The Ogun State House of Assembly has issued a definitive statement recognising the Amalgamated Motorcycle Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN) and two other bodies as the only legitimate revenue agents for commercial motorcycles in the state.
This clarification was contained in an official letter directed to the State Commissioner of Police at Eleweran Headquarters, Abeokuta, and signed by Mr Elegbede L.O, the Director of the Committee for the Clerk/Head of Legislative Services.
The letter, with reference number CHA/C/VOLII/23/28, firmly reaffirms the legitimacy of ACOMORAN, AMORAN, and ROMO as the only three motorcycle revenue agents authorised by the State Government and recognised by the Assembly to operate and collaborate in revenue generation from commercial motorcycle operations.
According to the legislature, these groups have been duly appointed to collect revenue on behalf of the Ogun State Government.
The House issued a strong warning, stating that any other group or individual presenting itself as motorcycle revenue agents should be regarded as impostors without recognition from the State Assembly.
“In the light of the above, I am to request you to recognise them as the official motorcycle revenue agents in Ogun State,” the letter reads, while attaching a previous correspondence on the same issue dated January 31, 2025, for reference.
This move by the Assembly is seen as an effort to streamline revenue collection, curb multiple illegal taxations, and bring clarity to the commercial transport sector. By officially communicating this to the State Police Command, the House seeks the enforcement of this directive to prevent any unauthorised collection that could harass motorcycle riders, popularly known as Okada riders.
The recognition solidifies the operational mandate of AMORAN and its counterparts, granting them exclusive rights to interface with riders on behalf of the state government for revenue purposes. Stakeholders anticipate this will reduce conflicts and foster a more organised transport environment in Ogun State.
