Leaders of the All Progressives Congress in Remo Division have formally endorsed Governor Dapo Abiodun as their consensus candidate for the Ogun East Senatorial District in the 2027 elections.
The decision, reached at a high-stakes meeting of party stakeholders in Sagamu on Tuesday, effectively kicks off early political realignments ahead of the next general election.
‘HE IS EMINENTLY QUALIFIED’
Moving the endorsement motion, Chief Muri Awolaja, an apex APC leader from Sagamu Local Government, declared the governor “an achiever and a true son of Remoland” who is “eminently qualified” to proceed to the National Assembly.
The motion was immediately seconded by former Remo North Local Government Chairman, Dapo Odunsi.
Grassroots backing was swift. Ikenne Local Government Chairman, Hon. Jamiu Asimi, told the governor: “We are at the grassroots, and we can confidently say the good people of Remoland and Ogun East are waiting for you to represent them in the Senate.”
His Remo North counterpart, Hon. Muyiwa Sodade, added his voice to the call.
GAC MEMBER DELIVERS FORMAL DECLARATION
The endorsement was formally announced by Chief Kola Ogunjobi, a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council, following what sources described as “extensive deliberations and careful appraisal” of the Abiodun administration.
Ogunjobi cited over 1,600 kilometres of roads constructed in six years, completion of the Gateway International Airport, and reforms attracting more than 70 per cent of Nigeria’s new manufacturing investments to Ogun State.
“His performance has exceeded expectations. If he has done this much as governor, bringing him home to represent Ogun East will deliver even greater dividends,” Ogunjobi said.
FULL HOUSE OF PARTY HEAVYWEIGHTS
Present at the session were Ogun East APC Chairman Chief Adeleke Adedoyin; apex leader Otunba Dapo Osho; Commissioner for Environment Hon. Ola Oresanya; SUBEB Chairman Hon. Olalekan Ifede; Special Adviser on Political Affairs Apagun Biyi Adeleye; and Hon. Segun Ogunleye, among others.
Council chairmen, vice chairmen, and secretaries from the three local government areas were also in attendance, pledging full mobilisation and grassroots machinery to secure the ticket and eventual victory.
WHAT COMES NEXT
Governor Abiodun is yet to officially declare his interest. But Tuesday’s coordinated move by Remo Division leaders signals that the machinery for 2027 is already in motion — with the Senate seat firmly in their sights.
