There was panic in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, on Monday evening as another man was killed by unidentified gunmen.

unidentified gunmenThe News Agency of Nigeria reports that the killing of the man, whose identity could not be immediately ascertained, came barely three days after a close ally of former Governor Segun Oni, Bunmi Ojo, was assassinated in the capital.

Witnesses said the man was shot at a junction close to the end of the newly constructed overhead bridge at the Okesa/Ojumose Area of the ancient town at about 5:30pm.

According to the witnesses, the victim, who was said to be a passenger on a commercial motorcycle, popularly called Okada, was allegedly pursued to the area where he was later killed by his assailants.

NAN learnt that the killers, who also came to the scene on another okada, ordered the operator of the commercial motorcycle conveying the victim to stop at the spot where he was killed and sped-off immediately they achieved their aim.

However, the assailants spared the operator of the okada.

The body of the shot passenger had since been moved to an undisclosed hospital by sympathisers who felt he could still survive, as he bled profusely.

The incident led to sudden closure of many shops in and around the Bisi Market located close to the area by their owners, even as many residents who either witnessed or got wind of the killing hurriedly left for their homes .

When contacted, the spokesman of the Ekiti State Police Command, DSP Caleb Ikechukwu, told NAN that the command was yet to be briefed by the Divisional Police Officer of Okesa Division.

Ikechukwu promised to speak on the attack as soon as he got information about the incident.
