A traditional ruler, Onise of Odo-Oro in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Oba Gbadebo Ogunsakin has been allegedly murdered by a mentally deranged man, simply identified as Kunle.
The Politico gathered that the monarch was stabbed in the chest with a knife at the palace shortly after presiding over a council meeting with his chiefs.
A source in the community said the mentally deranged person was from the royal family of the late monarch.
Another source,who pleaded anonymity noted that,the suspects who had been coming to the palace attempted to sit on the Monarch’s seat before he was chased away by the palace guards.
He said the monarch emerged from the meeting and approaching his waiting vehicle when he was stabbed.
He said, ” On getting there we saw our traditional ruler in a pool of blood, as Kunle had stabbed him with knife in the chest.
” We tried rushing him to the hospital,but our monarch gave up the ghost before getting to the hospital.”
Speaking with The Politico, the Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO) in Ekiti State, DSP Caleb Ikechukwu confirmed the incident.
He said the suspect had escaped into the bush and that men of the command are on his trail to arrest him.
Ikechukwu disclosed that normalcy had since returned to the ancient community following an initial protest by the angry youth.
“A lunatic actually stabbed the monarch to death. Our men and locals are doing everything to arrest him because we gathered he ran into the bush.
“He always come to the Palace but today he wanted to sit on the Monarch’s seat which was resisted by the guards. He was chased out.
“Unfortunately,he hides somewhere and when the monarch was going towards his vehicle, he stabbed him,” the PPRO said.
