Kaduna State* – Conflicting reports have emerged over the tragic accident that reportedly claimed the lives of up to 19 members of Team Kano’s contingent returning from the 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF) in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Initial reports indicated that the athletes were involved in a fatal crash at Dakatsalle Bridge, about 50 kilometres from Kano, after passing through Kaduna State. A viral video showed a coaster bus suspected to be theirs skidding off the bridge, leading to the accident.

However, fresh but unverified information suggests that the contingent had already arrived in Kano safely, and the same driver was transporting footballers to Akwa Ibom when the crash occurred. A source in Kano disclosed this new angle but cautioned that official confirmation was still needed.

Umar Bala Fagge, Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, earlier confirmed that the ill-fated bus was carrying about 30 athletes. Authorities are yet to clarify the latest development as investigations continue.

The sports community remains in shock, awaiting further details from Kano officials.
