Abeokuta- In a significant move to regularise building developments, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has granted a three-month amnesty to owners of existing structures built without the required planning permit.

The initiative, which runs from November 1, 2025, to January 31, 2026, offers a 50% rebate on the standard penal fees for those who come forward to secure their permits. The amnesty applies to residential, commercial, industrial, and other types of developments.
According to a statement released by the Honourable Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, TPL Olatunji Odunlami, the concession is a year-end gesture to the people of Ogun State. The move is expected to bring a large number of existing buildings into compliance with the state’s urban planning laws.
Under the regular law, offenders are required to pay a penalty that is double the planning permit fee for commercial and industrial buildings and an additional full fee for residential developments. The amnesty effectively halves these penalties.
The government has directed affected individuals and corporate bodies to visit the headquarters of the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority or any of its 32 Zonal Planning Offices across the state for further clarification and to begin the regularisation process.
