Atan-Ota – A deadly clash between two rival cult groups in the Atan-Ota area of Ogun State has resulted in the death of a man identified as Bashiru Saidu. The violent confrontation, which erupted late yesterday evening, sent residents into panic as gunshots and chaos engulfed the community.

According to eyewitnesses, the clash involved members of the *Eiye* and *Aiye* confraternities, who engaged in a fierce battle near a local market. The violence escalated quickly, with reports of machete attacks and sporadic gunfire. Bashiru Saidu, believed to be a member of one of the groups, was fatally wounded during the confrontation. His body was later discovered by local residents, who alerted the police.

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the incident, stating that operatives from the Atan-Ota Division have been deployed to restore order and prevent further violence. Police spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, assured the public that an investigation is underway and efforts are being made to apprehend those responsibly.

“Cult-related violence remains a major security concern, and we urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities,” Odutola said.

This latest incident adds to a growing list of cult-related killings in Ogun State, raising concerns over the increasing influence of secret societies among youths. Community leaders have called for stricter measures to curb the activities of these groups before more lives are lost.

Residents of Atan-Ota are now living in fear, with many calling for increased police patrols in the area. Authorities have urged calm while assuring that security measures are being reinforced to prevent further outbreaks of violence.
