A wave of relief and gratitude swept through the Obantoko community in Odeda Local Government Area today as the Dele/Yemisi Peace Foundation held a successful free medical outreach. The event, which provided critical health screenings and consultations, served over 200 beneficiaries, offering essential services at no cost.
Held at the OLG Primary School in Somorin, the outreach was organised in loving memory of Oluwayemisi Abodemi Olabode. It aimed to bring immediate healthcare access to the doorsteps of residents, aligning with the foundation’s core mission of “Bringing Succour; Promoting Peace & Stability.”
From early morning, a steady stream of community members availed themselves of comprehensive healthcare services, including:
· Diabetes screening and consultation
· Malaria testing and treatment guidance
· Hypertension (blood pressure) checks
· Comprehensive eye examinations
The programme, sponsored by Dr Omoleye Olabode and Hon. Semiu Bola Lawal, was staffed by a team of dedicated medical volunteers who worked tirelessly to attend to every attendee with care and professionalism.
The atmosphere was one of palpable appreciation. Many beneficiaries expressed their heartfelt gratitude, highlighting the significance of this initiative in a region where access to routine medical checks can be challenging.
“This programme is a blessing from God,” said Mrs Adeola, a 65-year-old beneficiary. “I have been feeling weak but couldn’t afford to go for a proper check-up. Today, they tested me for malaria and diabetes, gave me advice, and even some medication. I am so grateful to the foundation and the sponsors for remembering us.”
Another attendee, Mr Folarin, added, “The eye check was particularly helpful for my father. They identified an issue we were unaware of and provided us with exact instructions on where to seek further assistance. This is what true community support looks like. It has brought peace to my mind.”
Hon. Semiu Bola Lawal, one of the event’s sponsors, emphasised the importance of grassroots health interventions. “True development and peace begin with a healthy populace. We are honoured to support this cause in memory of the beloved Oluwayemisi and to contribute to the well-being of our people,” he stated.
