A tragic accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway earlier today has claimed the lives of two individuals—one Nigerian and one British national—and left boxing champion Anthony Joshua recuperating from his injuries.

The victims have been identified as Ayodele Kelvin Olu (36), a Nigerian-British citizen, and Gami Sina (36), a British national. Both were passengers in the vehicle involved in the collision.

The British High Commission has been formally notified and is actively engaged with authorities and the hospital. The Deputy High Commissioner visited the site and met with Joshua and officials. The families of the deceased have been contacted through diplomatic channels.

High-level government response was swift, with the Governors of Lagos and Ogun States personally overseeing the situation at the hospital for over seven hours. They were joined by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been fully briefed and has spoken directly with Anthony Joshua and family members to offer his condolences and support.

Authorities confirm that arrangements are being made to repatriate the bodies of the deceased to the United Kingdom, in accordance with their families’ wishes. All efforts are being focused on providing Joshua with the best possible medical care.

Further updates on the condition of the boxing icon are expected from the state governments
