A 40-year-old farmer, Abdullahi Rasaki, tragically lost his life after a palm tree fell on him in Bogije Village, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State. The incident occurred around 3:30 pm on Sunday and was reported to the police later that evening by a witness, Gbamila Sunday.
According to the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, Rasaki and his companion, Waheed Abbass, had gone to Egbe Semi Jeje, Oke Sopen, to cut palm trees when one of the trees accidentally fell on him.
“Abdullahi reportedly screamed in pain for help, and neighbours in the vicinity rushed to his aid,” Odutola stated. “They removed the tree and immediately took him to General Hospital, Sagamu, for treatment. Unfortunately, he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor upon arrival at the hospital. It is suspected that the heavy tree landed on a critical part of his body.”
Rasaki’s body has been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy. The Divisional Crime Branch has launched an investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident, with further updates expected as the investigation progresses.
The Ogun State Police Command has extended its condolences to the family of the deceased and urged the public to exercise caution while engaging in tree-felling and farming activities to prevent similar tragedies.
