Abeokuta – Governor Dapo Abiodun has urged residents of Ogun State to prioritize security and embrace the spirit of unity and compassion as they celebrate the Christmas season.

The governor made the call during the annual Christmas Carol and Service of Nine Lessons held at the Arcade Ground, Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Friday.
In his address, Governor Abiodun emphasized the need for vigilance and proactivity to ensure a peaceful and safe festive period. He reminded citizens that the essence of Christmas extends beyond celebration to embodying Christ-like virtues of love, humility, and service.
“Unity remains one of Ogun State’s greatest strengths. Ours is a land of diverse cultures and traditions, yet we continue to live in peace, proving that there is strength in our diversity,” Abiodun stated.
He also conveyed the Christmas message of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, encouraging Nigerians to embrace shared responsibility and communal harmony.
Highlighting his administration’s achievements, the governor affirmed that Ogun State has emerged as one of the safest and fastest-growing economies in Nigeria, attributing this progress to the collective resolve of its people.
“Our greatest asset is not only our physical infrastructure but the unity, compassion, and shared purpose of our people,” he added.
The service featured a sermon by Pastor Tunde Bakare, Lead Pastor of Citadel Global Community Church, titled “The Best Gift Ever.” Bakare described Christmas as the celebration of God’s priceless gift to humanity, urging the congregation to embrace hope and goodwill.
The event was attended by dignitaries including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Governor Olusegun Osoba, traditional rulers, and top government officials.
Musical performances by gospel artistes Tope Alabi and Laolu Gbenjo added to the solemn yet joyful atmosphere.
The symbolic Nine Lessons were read by prominent figures, culminating with the ninth lesson delivered by Governor Abiodun himself.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to the “Building Our Future Together” agenda and the ISEYA development pillars, focusing on equitable infrastructure and sustained economic growth across the state.
