Abeokuta, Ogun State – Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has expressed profound grief over the passing of the Alaperu of Iperu-Remo, Oba Adeleke Adelekan Idowu-Basibo, describing his transition as a deeply shocking and irreplaceable personal loss.

Governor Abiodun, who is also a prince of the Iperu-Remo kingdom, acknowledged the inevitability of divine will, stating that no mortal can question the decisions of Almighty God. He noted that he was still coming to terms with the news of the revered monarch’s demise.

In a heartfelt tribute, Abiodun described the late Oba Idowu-Basibo as a royal father, friend, and confidant whose reign brought peace, prosperity, and remarkable development to the Iperu-Remo kingdom, Ogun State and Nigeria at large. He expressed devastation at the sudden loss of the highly distinguished and beloved traditional ruler.

The governor highlighted the late monarch’s exemplary life and achievements, noting his academic excellence and distinguished career. Oba Idowu-Basibo attended St. James Primary School, pursued his A-level program at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, and studied marine economics at the University College London. He also obtained diplomas in importing and exporting from Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, and earned a PhD from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology. His career in the Customs Service in Europe spanned two decades, marked by dedication and excellence.

Abiodun emphasized that the late Oba’s reign was characterized by significant progress in infrastructure, economic advancement, and the promotion of peace and unity within the Iperu-Remo kingdom. He described the monarch as a man of great grace and dignity, who prioritized the well-being of his people regardless of their creed or political affiliation.

“Oba Adeleke Adelekan Idowu-Basibo was a paragon of excellence and a beacon of development. His legacy of service, peace, and progress will forever be remembered. He will be sorely missed,” the governor stated.

The passing of Oba Idowu-Basibo has left a void in the hearts of the people of Iperu-Remo and beyond, as they mourn the loss of a visionary leader and a unifying figure. The Ogun State government and the Iperu-Remo kingdom are expected to announce further plans to honour his legacy in the coming days.
