The Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to the Ogun State Governor, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, has stated that while the administration is open to constructive criticism, it will not welcome personal attacks or insults disguised as political or religious commentary.

Akinmade made the remarks on Wednesday while receiving members of the Gateway Bloggers group on a courtesy visit to his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

He emphasised the importance of responsible reporting and civic engagement, urging bloggers and content creators to be factual and to utilise appropriate channels when raising concerns with the government.

“As bloggers and content creators in our social engagement, we must be responsible. I am not saying you should avoid pointing out what is wrong. On the contrary, if we are wrong, we are quick to admit it and make corrections. We are open to constructive criticism—criticism that is fair, factual, and aimed at improvement,” Akinmade stated.

However, he drew a clear line between legitimate critique and abusive conduct. “Criticism should not be reckless or abusive. There are many appropriate channels through which concerns can be raised and government officials engaged. Leadership should not be reduced to insults or personal attacks, especially under the guise of religion or politics.”

The governor’s aide highlighted that government operations rely on established procedures and public cooperation. “We need everyone’s cooperation to strengthen our value chain. Let us continue to work together with sincerity, patience, and faith,” he added.

Speaking earlier, the State Coordinator of Gateway Bloggers, Mr. Olamide David, outlined the group’s objective to accurately showcase the state’s progress and potential. He affirmed their commitment to accountable reporting and promoting narratives that support development.

The meeting underscored the ongoing dialogue between the state government and digital media practitioners on fostering a responsible and productive public discourse.
