Abeokuta, Ogun State – Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, appeared before Magistrate O.L Oke at the Magistrate Court in Isabo, Abeokuta, on Thursday, where he pleaded not guilty to a five-count charge. The charges include assault, conspiracy, and illegal possession of a firearm, among others.
The “Zazoo Crooner,” who has been in the spotlight for his controversial lifestyle and social media antics, arrived at the court in the morning and was arraigned following the allegations. During the proceedings, Portable made a surprising admission, declaring that he was not insane.
His counsel, Oluwatoyin Omomeyin Ayodele, argued for his bail, assuring the court that the singer would comply with all legal requirements and refrain from unlawful acts. Ayodele emphasized that Portable remains innocent until proven guilty by the court.
“My Lord, I pray that you exercise patience on Habeeb Olalomi by granting him bail. This bail is for him to properly stand his trial,” Ayodele stated. “Okikiola is still innocent until the court proves otherwise. I promise that he will appear before his trial and will not miss any court appearance.”
Magistrate Oke granted Portable bail under strict conditions. The singer was required to post a bail bond of two million naira, with two sureties providing the same amount. Additionally, the court imposed several restrictions, including a ban on Portable’s use of social media, a requirement to avoid causing trouble in society, and a mandate to appear in court promptly for all hearings.
Magistrate Oke warned Portable, “Are you alright? Are you sure you are mentally sound? If you go about on social media discussing anything, or if you cause trouble in society, your bail will be cancelled. You must appear before the court and not be late. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of your bail.”
Portable assured the court of his mental stability, replying, “I am mentally alright.”
The case has been adjourned to March 5 for further hearing. Portable’s legal team and supporters await the next phase of the trial as the singer continues to navigate the legal challenges.
This development comes amid Portable’s rising fame and notoriety, with the singer often making headlines for his controversial statements and actions. The court’s decision to grant bail under strict conditions reflects concerns over his public conduct and its potential impact on the ongoing case.
As the trial progresses, all eyes will be on the singer to see if he adheres to the court’s conditions and how the case unfolds in the coming weeks.
