Abeokuta – The people of Ijebu East Local Government have appealed to His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun (CON), the Executive Governor of Ogun State, for greater inclusion in governance and urgent attention to critical infrastructure, healthcare, security, and agricultural development in their constituency.
In a letter addressed to the governor and copied to the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elemide Oludaisi, Hon. Waliu Owode, the representative of Ijebu East in the state assembly, highlighted the challenges facing the local government and called for immediate intervention.
The letter commended Governor Abiodun for his administration’s strides in infrastructure development across the state but expressed concern over the consistent neglect of Ijebu East. Hon. Owode noted that the constituency has been sidelined in key government appointments and projects, despite its significant contributions to the state’s agricultural and economic sectors.
One of the key appeals in the letter was the inclusion of Alhaji Ademola Adenubi, the CEO of EduTAMS Software Company, in the state executive council as Commissioner for Information and Technology. The letter emphasized that Adenubi’s expertise and innovative mindset would be a valuable asset to the administration.
Ijebu East, known for its vast fertile farmland and agricultural clusters, plays a crucial role in the production of rice, fish, oil palm, cassava, and other cash crops. However, the lack of government support and infrastructure has hindered the full utilization of these resources. The letter urged the state government to prioritize agricultural development in the area by providing necessary support to farmers and investing in modern farming techniques.
The deplorable state of roads in Ijebu East was also highlighted as a major concern. Hon. Owode listed several critical roads that require urgent rehabilitation, including Igbaga Road, Ijebu Imushin Market Road, and Imushin to Isoyin Road, among others. These roads are vital for the movement of agricultural produce and overall economic activities in the constituency.
In the healthcare sector, the letter called for the renovation and equipping of health centres and the upgrade of Ife General Hospital in Ijebu Ife. Despite being designated as a general hospital, the facility lacks the necessary equipment and infrastructure to function effectively.
Additionally, the letter appealed for enhanced security measures in Imobi, a coastal community that shares a boundary with Ijebu Waterside. The establishment of a naval base or marine police base was proposed to improve security and protect the region’s coastal communities.
Hon. Owode concluded the letter by urging the governor to ensure greater inclusion of Ijebu East in the state’s policies and programs. He emphasized that the constituency is home to many productive young minds eager to contribute to the development of Ogun State.
The people of Ijebu East expressed their trust in Governor Abiodun’s leadership and looked forward to a positive response to their appeals.
