In a bid to resolve persistent power supply challenges, the Ipokia Local Government Chairman, Hon. Johnson Akohomeh Avoseh, hosted a crucial meeting with officials of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. The meeting, held at the Local Government Secretariat, sought to identify the causes of erratic electricity supply in the area and explore lasting solutions.
The IBEDC delegation, led by Technical Supervisor Mr. Hamzat, highlighted key issues affecting power distribution, including frequent faults on the Papalanto-Idiroko supply line, overgrown vegetation obstructing power lines, and insufficient megawatt allocation to meet the energy needs of the local government.
Proffering solutions, Mr. Hamzat stressed the need for collaboration with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to secure an increased power allocation for Ipokia. He also recommended engagement with the IBEDC Business Hub in Joju, Sango Ota, to explore options for boosting megawatt capacity, as well as coordination with the IBEDC Regional Office in Abeokuta for systemic resolutions. Additionally, he emphasised regular vegetation clearing to improve supply stability.
Hon. Avoseh commended the IBEDC team for their insights and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring reliable electricity for residents. He pledged swift action on the recommendations, including follow-up meetings with IBEDC’s Joju Business Hub and Abeokuta Regional Office, as well as stakeholder collaboration to address vegetation control and other challenges.
The Chairman assured residents that the local government remains dedicated to enhancing their welfare through improved power supply, urging patience as efforts are intensified to resolve the issues.
