In a bid to promote cultural integration and economic development, the Ipokia Local Government hosted a delegation from the Festival of Art and Culture for Economic Development on Monday, February 10, 2025. The meeting, led by Hon. Johnson Akohomeh Avoseh, Executive Chairman of Ipokia Local Government, focused on fostering cross-border cultural ties between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.
The festival, sponsored by the Nigerian Customs, aims to strengthen cultural exchange and peace-building efforts between the two nations. Dr. Bonny Abisogun Botoku, Secretary General for Nigeria and Republic of Benin Interaction and leader of the delegation, highlighted the festival’s international appeal, attracting participants and audiences from countries such as Cuba, Brazil, and Australia.
Accompanied by prominent figures including Mr. Isaac, the Goge Africa Festival promoter, and Moses, a renowned African cultural ambassador, Dr. Botoku proposed the establishment of an art and culture museum in Ipokia Local Government. The museum would showcase local artefacts, cultural identities, and unique traditions, serving as a hub for cultural preservation and tourism.
Additionally, Goge Africa announced plans to launch a mentorship programme aimed at training at least five individuals in the promotion of arts and culture on a global scale.
Hon. Avoseh expressed his support for the initiatives, commending the cultural advancements under the leadership of His Excellency Prince Dr Dapo Abiodun CON, Governor of Ogun State. He highlighted the international recognition brought to the state through initiatives like Adire and emphasised Ipokia’s rich cultural heritage in food, clothing, and traditions.
“Ipokia Local Government is ready for cross-border cooperation and cultural integration,” Hon. Avoseh stated. “We are committed to preserving our cultural identity while exploring opportunities for economic growth through tourism.”
Dr Botoku reiterated the festival’s vision of creating a sustainable cultural hub in Ipokia, which would not only preserve local heritage but also generate revenue through tourism.
The meeting was attended by key local government officials, including the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Babajide Johnson Olushola; the Head of Local Government Administration, Mr. Emmanuel Pogbe; and directors of community development and planning.
