The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Oba Abdulsemiu Adewale Ogunjobi, the Olorile of Orile Ifo, following the circulation of a viral video showing the alleged assault and verbal abuse of an elderly man, Mr Areola Abraham.
In the widely shared video, Mr Abraham is seen prostrating while being subjected to degrading treatment by the traditional ruler, sparking widespread condemnation and calls for justice. The incident has raised serious concerns about the violation of fundamental human rights and the rule of law.
In a swift response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, ordered a thorough investigation into the matter. Both the accused, Oba Ogunjobi, and the victim, Mr. Abraham, were invited to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, where their statements were obtained.
The Ogun State Police Command has strongly condemned the incident, reiterating its zero-tolerance stance on assault, harassment, and violence, regardless of the individuals involved. CP Ogunlowo assured the public that the investigation would be conducted with utmost professionalism and transparency, adhering to the principles of justice and human rights.
A source told Oguninsight.com that Oba Ogunjobi has since been arrested and is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
