The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mojisola Meranda, has refuted rumours of her resignation, describing them as false and unfounded. The claims, which surfaced online earlier this week, were swiftly addressed by her Chief Press Secretary, Segun Ajiboye, on Wednesday.
Ajiboye confirmed that the Speaker remains in office and is carrying out her duties as usual. “I’m in the office. The Speaker is in the office. I don’t know where that is coming from,” he stated, dismissing the speculation.
The rumours were fueled by an unsigned circular dated February 17, 2025, which circulated on social media for two days, alleging that Meranda had resigned. However, investigations revealed that the document lacked any official signature or authentication, casting doubt on its legitimacy.
The Lagos Assembly has been grappling with a leadership crisis since the removal of former Speaker Mudashiru by a majority of lawmakers. The latest resignation rumours have further heightened political tensions within the House.
Authorities are yet to identify the source of the fake circular, and investigations are ongoing. For now, Speaker Meranda remains in her position, urging the public to disregard the false reports.
