The Executive Chairman of Obafemi-Owode Local Government, Amb. Adesina Lanre Ogunsola, has called for enhanced collaboration with the Ogun State Police Command to tackle pressing security challenges, including land grabbing, drug abuse, and kidnapping.

The appeal was made during a courtesy visit by the State Commissioner of Police, CP. Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD, to the council headquarters in Owode-Egba on Tuesday.

Amb. Ogunsola, who received the CP in his office, highlighted the unique security challenges faced by the local government due to its proximity to Lagos and Oyo States and its shared boundaries with seven other LGAs. He acknowledged the relative peace enjoyed in the area, crediting the proactiveness of security agencies.

The Chairman, however, identified the activities of land grabbers as a critical threat, noting that they have become so bold as to encroach on government-owned properties.

“I want to appeal to your office to collaborate with us in addressing the issue of land grabbing,” Ogunsola stated. “We must ensure that land rights are respected and protected so that residents can live and work peacefully. Any land grabber apprehended must be charged in court to face the full wrath of the law.”

He also requested the deployment of more police personnel to porous areas within the council. He urged the force to staff newly constructed police stations and posts built by the local community to improve security coverage.

In his response, CP. Lanre Ogunlowo commended the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his support in strengthening security, including the provision of Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs). He revealed that Obafemi-Owode was his first official port of call since assuming office, a decision based on the chairman’s leadership track record.

The Police Commissioner assured the council boss of his full support, emphasising that anyone found culpable in the unlawful possession of government land would be arrested and prosecuted.

He addressed the request for more personnel, stating that the command would look into it and consider the LGA as the force expects a new batch of constables to be discharged from the police college soon.

The high-level meeting was attended by senior police officers, including DCP Muritala Bolanle, ACP Olayemi Oladele Jacob, the Police Public Relations Officer, CP Omolola Odutola, and several Divisional Police Officers (DPOs). Also present were the Vice Chairman, Secretary to the Local Government, and heads of departments from the council.
