Abeokuta – The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Ogun State Chapter, has extended its heartfelt congratulations to His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, on the resounding success of the recently concluded National Sports Festival – Gateway 2024. The prestigious national event, hosted by Ogun State from May 16th to May 30th, 2025, has garnered widespread acclaim for its seamless organization and impact.

In a statement signed by Hon. They highlighted that the event has further solidified Ogun State’s reputation as a burgeoning hub of sporting excellence and hospitality.

Ogun State’s strong performance in the competition was also a key point of commendation. The host state not only served as the perfect host but also achieved an outstanding 2nd place overall in the final medal standings. This remarkable achievement, as stated by ALGON, is “a testament to the spirit of excellence that His Excellency consistently inspires across the state.” While official final medal tallies varied slightly across reports, Ogun State consistently ranked among the top three, showcasing its athletic prowess.

ALGON also extended its appreciation to all members of the Festival Organizing Committee and other support teams for their unwavering dedication and hard work. Their collective efforts, in collaboration with the state government, were praised as exemplifying “what can be achieved through unity and purposeful leadership.”

The National Sports Festival, often dubbed “Nigeria’s Olympics,” brought together thousands of athletes from all 36 states and the FCT, fostering national unity and showcasing diverse athletic talents. Ogun State played host to a wide array of sporting events across multiple venues in Abeokuta, Ikenne, Sagamu, and Ijebu Ode.
