Ogun ALGON EXCO Visits State Leaders, Seeks Stronger Collaboration for Grassroots Development

The newly inaugurated Executive Committee of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Ogun State Chapter, on Tuesday, paid a courtesy visit to key state officials, including the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Daisi Olusegun Elemide, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Toyin Taiwo.

The delegation, led by ALGON Chairman, Dr. Folashade Adeyemo, comprised Dr. Akinbode (General Secretary), Hon. Kusimo Idris (Financial Secretary), Hon. Avoseh (Public Relations Officer), and Hon. Folusho Badejo (Social Secretary).

During the visit to the Assembly Complex, Speaker Elemide commended Dr Adeyemo on her election, expressing confidence in her ability to drive grassroots development across the state. “Your emergence as ALGON Chairman comes at a crucial time when we need to strengthen the synergy between the legislature and local governments to deliver democratic dividends to our people,” Elemide stated.

The Speaker emphasized the constitutional role of local governments in grassroots development, calling for enhanced collaboration between the State Assembly and ALGON. He clarified that all engagements between both arms of government are designed to foster cooperation and improve governance outcomes for residents.

“The House of Assembly remains committed to supporting local government administrations through necessary legislative frameworks,” Elemide said, urging ALGON to maintain prompt responses to legislative correspondence for effective service delivery.

In her response, Dr Adeyemo thanked the Speaker for the warm reception and assured ALGON’s readiness to work closely with the legislature. “We recognize the Assembly’s pivotal role in local government administration and pledge our commitment to this partnership for the development of our communities,” she said.

The ALGON team also met with the SSG, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, and the Chief of Staff, Dr. Toyin Taiwo, where they discussed strategies to enhance governance at the grassroots level.

The meetings concluded with resolutions to maintain open communication channels and collaborate on initiatives to improve living standards across Ogun State’s grassroots communities.
