The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed recent media reports suggesting that stakeholders are already considering candidates for the 2027 governorship election. The party described such reports as misleading and premature, urging members and the public to disregard them.

The clarification came in response to a publication by a national newspaper (name withheld) with the headline: *“2027: Ogun APC Stakeholders Opt For Amusan’s Candidacy.”* The report had sparked a wave of inquiries from party leaders and members, prompting the APC to address the issue.

In a statement released today, Tunde Oladunjoye, the State Publicity Secretary of Ogun APC, emphasized that the 2027 governorship candidacy is not currently on the party’s agenda. He described the newspaper headline as “crafty and catchy” but misleading, as it could create unnecessary misinterpretations and tensions within the party.

Oladunjoye stated, *“For the avoidance of doubt and with all sense of responsibility, the issue of the candidacy for the 2027 governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is not on the table of the party and its leaders for now.”*

He further explained that the party’s current focus is on supporting the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, in delivering his legacy projects. According to Oladunjoye, these projects are critical to strengthening the party’s position ahead of future elections.

*“The present preoccupation of the party is to support our performing governor and leader of the party in the state, Prince Dapo Abiodun, in executing his unfolding legacy projects, which will certainly boost the standing of our party at the next general elections,”* he added.

While acknowledging the rights of members to express their preferences, Oladunjoye warned against actions that could lead to misinformation, rumours, and division within the party. He reminded members that the APC has established structures and procedures to address any misconduct or overreach by individuals.

*“It is needless to remind members that the party has the established structure and procedure to apply the big sticks for those who overstep their bounds,”* he cautioned.

The statement has since been circulated to party members and the media to clarify the party’s position and prevent further speculation.

As the 2027 elections approach, political analysts expect the Ogun APC to face internal debates over candidacy. However, for now, the party has made it clear that such discussions are premature and not on its agenda.
