by Adebayo Kazeem

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former presidential spokesman and former Director General of the Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Council, Prince Doyin Okupe.

In a press statement issued on Friday and signed by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Tunde Oladunjoye, the APC described Okupe’s death as a significant loss to the state and the nation. The statement quoted the Ogun APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, as saying the demise of the renowned politician was “saddening.”

Chief Sanusi highlighted Okupe’s contributions to both his professional career as a medical practitioner and his extensive political journey, describing him as an “affable, sociable, and ebullient politician who gave his all to every assignment he undertook.”

“Dr. Okupe was a jovial and straightforward politician. You could always tell where he stood, even if you disagreed with him. He never engaged in politics of bitterness and was a free mixer,” the statement added.

The APC chairman also noted that Okupe’s return to the progressive fold before his death was a heartwarming development. According to Sanusi, Okupe openly demonstrated his support for the current APC-led administration under President Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, signalling his commitment to the party’s ideals.

“Ogun State has indeed lost one of its great political stars, who will be sorely missed at this critical time of national, political, and economic reconstruction,” the statement read.

The APC extended its condolences to the family of the late politician, including Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who hails from the same town as Okupe and shares a royal lineage with him. The party prayed for strength and fortitude for the family, friends, and associates of the deceased during this difficult time.

The statement was e-signed by Tunde Oladunjoye, the APC State Publicity Secretary.

Prince Doyin Okupe’s death marks the end of an era for Nigerian politics, as tributes continue to pour in from across the country, celebrating his life and legacy.
