The Ogun State Government has arrested six individuals along Oba Erinwole Road in Sagamu for allegedly breaking a government seal and illegally resuming construction on a site that had been previously sealed.
This was disclosed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), Hon. Farouk Akintunde, who also serves as the Chairman of the Ogun State Environmental Compliance and Enforcement Team.
According to Akintunde, a gas station under construction was initially sealed for violating the state’s environmental laws. However, during a subsequent compliance inspection, officials discovered workers actively on site, which prompted the immediate arrest of the individuals involved.
He warned residents of the state to strictly abide by environmental regulations to avoid sanctions, stating, “Breaking a government seal is a serious offence which attracts punishment under the environmental law of the State.”
In a related development, the enforcement team also sealed a farm within Laderin Estate in Abeokuta for rearing animals in a residential area, an action which contravenes the state’s environmental law. The team also conducted the removal of illegal shanties along major roads in the state capital.
