The Ogun State Councillors’ Forum has officially dismissed reports and a viral video claiming it endorsed a governorship aspirant for the 2027 election, stating that its allegiance remains firmly with Governor Dapo Abiodun MFR, CON, and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

In a statement issued on Friday and jointly signed by its Chairman, Hon. Fasheyi Akindele; Secretary, Hon. Rotimi Adeyemi; and the Acting President of the Nigeria Councillors Forum, Hon. Muheeb Abiola Kehinde, the forum described the circulating report as “entirely false.”

The forum clarified that members are currently in Abuja attending a National Legislative Capacity-Building Conference sponsored by Governor Abiodun. It explained that the misrepresented video originated from an informal interaction at their hotel premises when Chief Kayode Odunaro, an aide to Senator Olamilekan Solomon (Yayi), paid a brief courtesy visit.

“No official meeting was held, nor was any political allegiance expressed or shifted,” the statement read. “Any recording from that moment reflected personal actions and not the collective stance of the Forum.”

Reiterating its unwavering support for the present administration, the forum declared: “Our unwavering, 100 per cent loyalty remains with His Excellency, Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun MFR, CON, and the leadership of the party. We have not endorsed any gubernatorial aspirant. We stand firmly with the party leadership and will faithfully support whoever emerges as the APC governorship candidate.”

The councillors also revealed that during their stay in Abuja, they had undertaken courtesy visits to all House of Representatives members from Ogun State to strengthen ties with the party’s elected officials.

The forum urged the public, party faithful, and the APC national leadership to disregard the misleading video, affirming its commitment to the principles of unity, loyalty, and discipline within the party.

“We express our profound gratitude to His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, and the APC leadership for their unwavering support. The Forum remains committed to promoting good governance and accelerating development across our wards and Ogun State at large,” the statement concluded.
