In line with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, the Ogun State Police Command has launched a statewide enforcement of third-party motor insurance. The exercise, aimed at ensuring compliance with road safety regulations, officially commenced on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 12:00 PM.
Leading the operation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD, personally monitored compliance levels in key areas of Abeokuta, including Olomore, Ibara, and OPIC Panseke. The enforcement revealed that a significant number of motorists had adhered to the directive, while others appealed for more time to update their vehicle insurance.
Motorists found without valid third-party insurance but possessing other required vehicle documents were granted a grace period. They were also educated on the importance of third-party motor insurance, which provides financial protection for accident victims and ensures compensation by insurance companies.
CP Ogunlowo emphasized that the enforcement is a critical step toward promoting road safety and upholding the rule of law. He urged all vehicle owners in the state to regularize their insurance status promptly to avoid penalties.
The Ogun State Police Command has assured the public that the enforcement exercise will continue across the state as part of its commitment to ensuring compliance and enhancing road safety.
Motorists are advised to take immediate steps to comply with the directive to avoid sanctions.
