Ogun State Urges Residents to Maintain Clean, Safe Environment During Easter Celebrations

by Adebayo Kazeem

The Ogun State Government has called on residents and visitors to celebrate Easter in a clean, healthy, and safe environment. The Commissioner for Environment, Dr Ola Oresanya, made the appeal in a statement issued in Abeokuta, emphasizing the importance of proper waste disposal and adherence to environmental laws.

Oresanya congratulated Christians and all residents on the occasion of Easter while urging them to keep their surroundings clean by desilting drainage channels and properly storing waste in covered containers. He assured that Waste PSP Operators have been directed to work throughout the festive period to manage the expected increase in waste generation.

“All government waste management officials and equipment have been deployed across the state for special Easter duties to ensure a clean environment,” he said.

The commissioner also warned traders against street trading, stating that Environment Marshalls would enforce compliance. He particularly cautioned “emergency traders”—those displaying goods on roadsides, medians, or in vehicles—to relocate to designated markets or face confiscation and prosecution.

Additionally, Oresanya advised motorists to drive carefully to prevent accidents, noting that street sweepers would be on duty. He also reminded carnival organizers that blocking roads for celebrations is prohibited under state environmental laws.

The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining Ogun State’s reputation as a clean and orderly environment, urging full cooperation from residents.
