JOHANNESBURG — In a major move to bolster food security and youth employment, the Executive Chairman of Obafemi Owode Local Government, Amb. Adesina ‘Lanre Ogunsola, FCPA, has arrived in South Africa to finalize a landmark bilateral trade partnership.

The Chairman is leading a high-powered delegation to seal an agreement with the Izindonga Group and Maya Foods, a multinational agricultural powerhouse. The partnership aims to establish a fully integrated poultry value chain in the Obafemi Owode region of Ogun State, Nigeria.

A Transformational Vision for Poultry
The proposed project is designed to be a “farm-to-table” ecosystem, covering:

* Parent Stock & Commercial Production: Establishing high-grade poultry breeding and broiler clusters.

* Processing & Logistics: Advanced processing plants and a cold-chain distribution network.

* Sustainability: An innovative, energy-efficient waste-to-power system to drive the facility.

During his official address, Amb. Ogunsola praised the foresight of Mr. Zahkele Maya, CEO of Izindonga Group, describing the initiative as a “transformational catalyst” that aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Dapo Abiodun’s ISEYA mantra.

> “True progress is born when committed partners join hands across borders to solve shared challenges,” Ogunsola stated. “This venture will uplift our communities, improve food security, and strengthen Africa’s agricultural resilience.”

Government Support and Commitment
To ensure the success of the investment, the Obafemi Owode Local Government has pledged a robust support framework, including:

* Land Allocation: Immediate phased land release for project implementation.
* Regulatory Ease: Fast-tracking approvals in collaboration with federal agencies like NAFDAC and the NIPC.

* Infrastructure & Security: Provision of critical site infrastructure and a dedicated “Investment Desk” to serve as a single-window liaison for the investors.
Expanding Global Footprints
This South African mission follows closely on the heels of another international success for the Local Government. Amb. Ogunsola recently formalized a bilateral agreement with Mayor Robin R. Christiansen of Dover, Delaware (USA), which included the allocation of 10 hectares for agricultural research and youth agro-entrepreneurship.

Mr. Zahkele Maya expressed his confidence in the leadership of Obafemi Owode, citing the “institutional readiness” of the local government. A technical team from South Africa is expected to visit Ogun State by late January 2026 for a final inspection and the immediate commencement of the project.

The Chairman’s entourage includes Hon. Ajayi Adekunle (Chief Whip), Mr. Kayode Alebiosu (Director of Agriculture), and Dr. Lekan Ogunjobi (Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics).
