Ibadan – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has secured a decisive victory in the Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election, with its candidate, Folajinmi Oyekunle, defeating rivals by a wide margin.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, Professor Abiodun Oluwadare of the University of Ibadan, announced the results on Saturday at the collation center in Ikolaba High School, centre.

Oyekunle polled 18,404 votes, defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Adewale Olatunji (popularly known as Murphy), who garnered 8,312 votes. Other candidates trailed far behind, with Femi Akin-Alamu of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) securing 88 votes, Olabisi Olajumoke of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) getting 40 votes, and Hammed Badmus of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) receiving 18 votes.

The victory marks the PDP’s return to the Ibadan North Federal Constituency seat for the first time since 2011. Oyekunle will replace the late lawmaker, Musiliu Akinremi (popularly called Jagaban), whose death in office necessitated the by-election.

Professor Oluwadare stated, “I hereby certify that Folajinmi Oyekunle of the PDP, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is declared the winner of this election.”

The outcome has been celebrated by PDP supporters as a major political milestone in Oyo State, reinforcing the party’s dominance in the region.
