ABEOKUTA NORTH – In a significant move to bolster grassroots support and reward party loyalty, over 54 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 9, Abeokuta North Local Government, have benefited from a cash empowerment program.

The initiative was jointly organised by the Ward Councillor, Hon. Afolabi Olakunle, and the Governor’s Liaison Officer for Abeokuta North, Dr. Wale Bello, who also hails from the ward. The disbursement took place during the ward’s weekly meeting held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.

Addressing the attendees, Dr Wale Bello emphasised the importance of giving back to the party’s foundation—its members. He pledged that the empowerment drive was just the beginning of a sustained effort.

“This is our little way of appreciating your steadfastness and support for our great party,” Dr Bello stated. “We recognise that the backbone of our success lies with the members on the ground, and I promise to do more to ensure that other dedicated members across the ward also benefit from subsequent programs.”

Echoing similar sentiments, Councillor Hon. Afolabi Olakunle reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the people who elected him. He clarified that his loyalty rests squarely with the party members who facilitated his victory.

“Let me be clear: I have no other faction to support than the members of our party right here in Ward 9,” Hon. Afolabi declared. “You were the ones who voted me into office, and my primary responsibility is to serve your interests and ensure our collective progress. Supporting Governor Dapo Abiodun’s infrastructure and developmental programs across the state is key to that progress.”

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Risikat Lawal, expressed her profound gratitude on behalf of the recipients. She described the empowerment as a timely intervention that would have a significant impact on their lives and businesses.

“We are deeply thankful to Dr Bello and Hon. Afolabi for this gesture. This cash support will go a long way in alleviating some of our pressing needs,” Mrs Lawal said. “Their action has shown that they truly value us. In return, we promise to continue our unwavering support for them and the administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun.”

The event concluded with a renewed sense of camaraderie and commitment to the party’s ideals, as leaders urged continued support for the state government’s development agenda.
