ABEOKUTA – The Ogun State Police Command has confiscated an arsenal of weapons from a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Adebowale Opeyemi, 62, following serious allegations made by his wife that he repeatedly threatened her life with a firearm.
The incident, which unfolded in the Alanco Area of Osiele, Abeokuta, was brought to the attention of the police on Tuesday, August 27, by the retiree’s 60-year-old wife, Olufunmilayo Opeyemi.
In her formal complaint, Mrs. Opeyemi stated that her husband had developed a pattern of brandishing a single-barreled gun during their domestic disputes. She further alleged that the retired officer frequently discharged the weapon inside and around their home, creating an atmosphere of terror for her, their relatives, and neighbours.
The behaviour reportedly raised grave concerns within the community regarding the retired DSP’s mental well-being.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command, SP Omolola Odutola, stated that family members accompanied the distressed wife to the station. Following the complaint, the family agreed to seek medical intervention for Mr. Opeyemi and subsequently arranged for his transfer to a psychiatric hospital in Abeokuta for evaluation and treatment.
Acting on a duly obtained search warrant, police operatives raided the retiree’s residence. The search was conducted in the presence of his wife and children.
The operation led to the recovery of a cache of weapons, including:
· One single-barreled gun
· Two jack knives
· Three cutlasses
· One short iron rod
The suspect remains in medical care as investigations into the matter continue.
