ABUJA — Senator Gbenga Obadara, who represented Ogun Central between 2011 and 2015, has issued a strong rebuttal against reports of a political endorsement emerging from a recent summit of former National Assembly members from Ogun State.

In a statement released on Friday, Obadara categorically denied that any meeting took place in Abuja to endorse a governorship candidate for Ogun State or to discuss the Ogun West senatorial district’s political future.

The senator, who stated he was “physically present at the summit,” described the circulating reports as “infantile, very disrespectful, and unreasonable.” He emphasised that the sole political matter agreed upon was support for the South of Nigeria to complete an eight-year governance cycle and for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second term.

“The affirmation of every former Ogun National Legislator that attended the summit… never happened,” Obadara asserted. He warned fellow distinguished members to avoid fabrications that could threaten unity.

While acknowledging the fundamental right to support candidates, Obadara stressed the need for caution, decency, and decorum. He clarified that the summit was not the appropriate venue for such declarations.

“I made those who came to tell me of this intention realise that it is not a place and venue to bring that up and it’s ill-timed,” he revealed.

The former senator urged patience and strategic work, stating, “The right process has to be followed with decency.” He concluded by putting it on record that “NO ONE is against his candidacy,” but insisted on proper procedure.

The statement aims to quell rising political tensions and multiple inquiries received by the former lawmaker following the alleged reports.
