2019: INEC accepts list of candidates submitted by Buruji Kashamu’s Ogun PDP faction

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said it will publish the names of candidates submitted to it by the Kashamu faction of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, ahead of the 2019 election.

Buruji KashamuThe Commission affirmed this in a later dated 25th October, 2018 and addressed to the National Chairman of the party which was received at the office of the Chairman, Tuesday.

In the two-page letter signed by the Acting Secretary to the Commission, Okechukwu Ndeche, a copy of which was obtained by newsmen, the Commission said its resolve was pursuant to orders of the court in many cases.

The cases were listed to include FHC/L/CFS/636/2016 between Engineer Adebayo Dayo and others versus INEC and five others, FHC/L/CFS/114/2018 between Alhaji Adewole Adeyanju (member, PDP National Working Committee) and six others versus INEC and 30 others and FHC/ABJ/CFS/636/2016 between Engineer Bayo Dayo (State Chairman and eight others versus INEC and three others.

The Commission said the Federal High Court in the matters ordered INEC to recognise Adebayo Dayo led State Executive Committee of PDP in Ogun State and receive list of candidates to all elective positions for the 2019 election from the committee.

The letter reads: “The Commission wishes to draw your attention to the decision of the Federal High Court in the underlisted cases.

“The Federal High Court in the matters ordered INEC to recognise Adebayo Dayo-led State Executive Committee of PDP in Ogun State and receive list of candidates for the 2019 Governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly Elections from the said committee.

“You will recall that the Commission vide a letter dated 12th April, 2018 informed your party of the Commission’s compliance with the judgement of the Federal High Court in suit Nos FHC/L/CFS/636/2016 between Engr Adebayo Dayo and others versus INEC and five others, and FHC/L/1856/2017 – Alhaji Adewole Adeyanju (Member, PDP National Working Committee) and 6 others vs INEC and 30 others, which affirmed the decision of the Federal High Court in suit Nos FHC/L/CFS/636/2016 which is subsisting until it is set aside.

“Further to the above decision, the Federal High Court Abeokuta Division on 2nd October 2018 in suit No FHC/ABJ/CFS/636/2016 between Engr Bayo Dayo (State Chairman and eight others versus INEC and three others, also ordered the Commission to recognise Adebayo Dayo led State Executive Committee of PDP in Ogun State and receive list of candidates for the 2019 Governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly Elections from the said committee.

“Consequently, the Commission hereby notes the decision of the Federal High Court in the above referred cases and will publish the lists of candidates submitted by Adebayo Dayo led State Executive Committee of Ogun State pursuant to the orders of the Federal High Court until they are set aside.”
