In a decisive move to enforce environmental regulations, the Ogun State Government has closed four industries for breaching environmental laws. The affected companies include Colourful Africa Recycling Limited, Dinshengyuan Plastic Company Limited, Long Xiang Aluminium Nigeria Limited, all located along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, and Yilbao Plastic Nigeria Limited on the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway.

The shutdown was announced by Hon. Farouk Akintunde, Special Adviser to the Governor on the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) and Chairman of the State Taskforce on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement. Akintunde disclosed that Colourful Africa Recycling Limited was operating without the necessary environmental approvals and was discharging untreated waste into the environment. Similarly, Dinshengyuan Plastic Company Limited was found operating without proper environmental permits and failing to provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to its workers, exposing them to health hazards.

Long Xiang Aluminium Nigeria Limited was cited for repeatedly discharging untreated effluent into the environment and continuing operations despite a prior government “Stop Work Order.” Yilbao Plastic Nigeria Limited, which recycles used PET bottles into flakes, was also found guilty of persistent pollution and poor wastewater management.

Akintunde emphasized that the state government had issued multiple warnings and timelines for the companies to rectify their violations, but they failed to comply. As a result, the government had no choice but to shut them down in the public interest.

He commended industries that adhere to environmentally friendly practices while warning that those who fail to meet the required standards will face similar consequences. The Ogun State Government remains committed to promoting and enforcing the highest environmental standards across all industries operating within the state.
