Abeokuta – The Abeokuta South Local Government Legislative Council has today issued a directive for the immediate suspension of fines levied on commercial motorcycle operators for helmet and side mirror infractions. The move, formalized through House Resolution No. 7, comes in response to escalating tensions between the management of Necad Nerrow Nigeria Limited, the entity responsible for enforcing these regulations, and the Arewa faction of Okada (commercial motorcycle) riders within the council area.

Presided over by Hon. Ogundairo Jamiu, the council has taken decisive action, issuing the following key directives:

Immediate Suspension of Fines: All enforcement and collection of penalties related to the non-possession of helmets and side mirrors by commercial motorcycle operators are to cease forthwith. This suspension will remain in effect until further notice from the council.

Summons for Necad Nerrow Executive Officer: Mr. Olayinka Nurudeen Adenuga, the Executive Officer of Necad Nerrow Nigeria Limited, has been summoned to appear before the legislative council tomorrow, Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 10:00 AM. The council intends to engage in further discussions with Mr. Adenuga regarding the ongoing situation.

Meeting with Riders’ Associations: Representatives from key motorcycle associations within the area have also been called to a meeting with the council. Two representatives each from ACOMORAN, AMORAN, ROMO, and the Arewa Motorcycles Riders Association are required to appear before the council by 1:00 PM tomorrow, May 6, 2025.

Hon. Ogundairo Jamiu underscored the urgency of the matter and stressed the importance of immediate compliance with the council’s resolution to facilitate a swift resolution to the current dispute.
