ODEDA – August 27, 2025 – In a significant civic-minded move, community leader and philanthropist, Mr. Olukayode Adeola Sotayo, has committed one million Naira to support voter registration efforts across all wards in Odeda Local Government Area.
The private fund is specifically designated to mobilise and address the common logistical challenges that prevent them from obtaining their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs). The initiative is aimed at strengthening grassroots involvement in the democratic process.
Announcing the initiative, Sotayo emphasizedemphasisedcracy thrives on active citizenry. “This is about empowering our people and ensuring their voices are heard,” he said. “Democracy is not a spectator sport. It requires the active participation of every citizen to drive accountability and bring about the development we all desire. No eligible citizen should be denied a say in their own future.”
According to the plan, the funds will be disbursed in collaboration with trusted community leaders and volunteers. The allocation will cover critical areas such as public awareness campaigns, providing transportation for elderly and vulnerable residents to registration centres, and offering on-the-ground logistical support to ease the often cumbersome process.
The initiative has been welcomed by local stakeholders who see it as a practical and non-partisan step towards more inclusive governance. By removing key barriers to registration, the project is anticipated to substantially increase the number of registered voters in the local government, ensuring a more representative electorate in future elections.
Sotayo’s team has pledged to work closely with ward leaders to ensure the transparent and efficient application of the funds for its intended civic purpose.
