Abeokuta– The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a strong rebuttal against a “malicious, unfounded, and libellous publication” circulating online that alleges the party and its leaders were involved in ritual oath-taking.

Party Calls Publication ‘Entirely False’
In an official press release dated September 5, 2025, the party labelled the claims as “entirely false, baseless, and politically motivated.” The APC believes the publication is a deliberate attempt by “agents of disunity and detractors” to damage the integrity of the party and its leaders and disrupt the peaceful political climate in Ogun State. The party categorically denied that any such ritual oath-taking event ever took place, calling the description of the event “a complete fiction.”

The APC emphasised its status as a “law-abiding and responsible political organisation” that operates strictly within the framework of the Nigerian Constitution, the Electoral Act, and its own constitution. While acknowledging that oath-taking is a legitimate constitutional practice for affirming loyalty, the party stressed that it is strictly regulated by the Oaths Act, which outlines who can administer oaths and for what purpose. The party condemned any action that contravenes these legal and ethical standards.

Internal Review and Legal Action Planned
In response to the allegations, the Ogun State APC has initiated an internal review. According to the statement, all members named in the publication have been contacted and have “unequivocally denied any involvement.” The party has also announced it will form an independent fact-finding committee to investigate the source and motivation behind the false claims. The findings will be made public once the investigation is complete. The party challenged those responsible for spreading the falsehoods to present credible evidence to the APC secretariat. It also warned that any registered member found to be involved in unlawful activities will face disciplinary action.

Public Urged to Disregard Falsehoods
The APC reserved the right to pursue all legal remedies, including civil and criminal actions, against individuals or groups who have defamed the party or its members. The public was urged to “disregard the publication in its entirety” and to only trust official communications from the party’s recognised channels. The statement concluded by saying the APC remains focused on its mission to promote unity, development, and good governance in Ogun State and will not be distracted by the “antics of desperate political elements.” The press release was signed by Hon. Nuberu, Adesanya Olufemi, the Director of Publicity for the Ogun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress.
