ABEOKUTA – The Ogun State and Local Government Pension Fund Management Committees have lauded the administration of Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun for its “unwavering commitment” to the welfare of workers and retirees in the state.

The committees gave the commendation during a joint meeting held on Friday, November 6, 2025, to review the progress of the ongoing Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) reforms.

In a statement highlighting key milestones, the committees praised the state government for several achievements, including the successful enrolment and verification of employees, consistent remittance of monthly pension deductions, and the approval of palliative payments to retirees.

Other significant milestones noted were the remittance of accrued pension rights for over 24,000 workers, the approval of death benefits for 352 deceased employees, and the ongoing review of pension laws to further strengthen the administration of the scheme.

The committees reaffirmed their dedication to the core principles of transparency, sustainability, and the prompt payment of benefits to all retirees. They assured all stakeholders of their diligence in fulfilling the obligations of the Contributory Pension Scheme.

The meeting, which included a delegation from the National Pension Commission (PenCom), also focused on aligning the state’s practices with national standards. The committees pledged to address existing challenges and plan the next phase of the scheme’s implementation, keeping the prompt payment of benefits as a top priority.

This development is widely seen as a testament to Governor Abiodun’s administration making pension reform and the welfare of its workforce a key governance priority.
