ABEOKUTA – The Ogun State Police Command has deployed tactical squads for surveillance operations in the Ajebo community, aiming to quell fears and dispel a viral social media video alleging a planned attack by herdsmen.

This move comes after a widely circulated video claimed that herdsmen were preparing to unleash violence on the community in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area. In response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, ordered an intelligence-led assessment of the area.

A joint security team, comprising the police tactical unit, Amotekun Corps, So-Safe Corps, and local vigilante groups, was dispatched to assess the situation. According to a statement from the Police Command, the operation revealed that Fulani settlers in the area are “not hostile migrants but long-standing residents, living peacefully within the community.”

The security operatives reported that no arms or suspicious activities were detected during the sweep. They found women and children in temporary shelters, noting that the adult men had travelled to Oyo State for their routine trading activities.

The operation also confirmed the existence of an extended RUGA settlement that has reportedly been in the location for over a decade.

In light of these findings, the Police Command has invited the Kabiyesi, Oba Rueben Oluwole, who is said to have authorized the land allocation to the settlers, for clarification. The Baale of Alapako has also been summoned for a meeting.

Authorities have assured residents that the continued security presence in the forest area, approximately 10km from the main community, is a “strictly precautionary” measure.

The Ogun State Police Command has urged the public to remain calm and avoid sharing unverified information, reaffirming that proactive intelligence measures are fully in place to ensure public safety.
