Abeokuta – The Chief Judge of Ogun State, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, has called on judiciary staff to adopt standardized practices in archiving and record management to enhance efficiency and productivity within the state’s justice system.

The charge was delivered on her behalf by Justice Olanrewaju Mabekoje during the opening of a five-day training programme for staff of the Ogun State Judiciary. The event, held at the Judiciary Complex on Kobape Road, Abeokuta, is part of a broader four-week initiative to restructure the Archives Section.

Justice Dipeolu underscored the critical importance of court records, describing them as “silent witnesses to the administration of justice.” She stated that these records are a testament to the public’s confidence in seeking redress through the judiciary instead of resorting to self-help.

Highlighting the consequences of negligence, the Chief Judge warned that a careless misunderstanding or an inaccurate entry in court files could cause significant damage to litigants, legal practitioners, and the judiciary’s reputation. She implored the archive staff to uphold the integrity of the justice system by ensuring that all records are easily accessible, accurate, and secure.

A key resource person at the event, Mrs. Titilola Aluko-Arowolo, delivered a lecture titled “Familiarisation with Documents, Case Files and Record Books.” She emphasized that adopting new record-keeping methodologies would help eliminate the recurring issue of missing stored files.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Training Committee, Justice Olanrewaju Mabekoje, described the programme as pivotal to human capital development. He noted that it provides a valuable opportunity for participants to learn new techniques for accurate documentation, proper storage, and the timely retrieval of information from records and files.

Echoing the sentiment of the organisers, one of the participants, Mr. Fatai Olawale, expressed confidence that the training would significantly improve service delivery for staff in the archive section of the Ogun judiciary.
