LAGOS – A former spokesman for the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has made startling allegations of betrayal against the former Governor of Ogun State and current Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.

Igbokwe’s claims surfaced in a reaction to a viral video by a supporter of Senator Daniel, which compared him to the incumbent Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.

In a detailed social media post, Igbokwe, while acknowledging Daniel’s brilliance as an engineer and scholar, recounted a bitter episode from the senator’s early career. He revealed that Daniel worked for years under his late senior brother, Sunday Ifeanyi Igbokwe, at the engineering firm HF Schroeder in Mile Two, Lagos.
The company specialized in lifts and the installation of heavy-duty alternators and generators, where Igbokwe himself also completed his Industrial Training (IT).
According to Igbokwe, his brother held Daniel in extremely high regard. “My brother never wanted to lose him no matter the circumstances. He could not do without Gbenga Daniel,” he stated.
However, the relationship allegedly soured dramatically. Igbokwe claimed that Daniel eventually “fell out” with his brother, leading to a shocking betrayal that resulted in the late Sunday Igbokwe being “chased out of the company premises.”
He painted a vivid picture of his brother’s distress, stating that he “landed in my office in Surulere, stunned into disbelief, disappointed, disillusioned, and flabbergasted.” Igbokwe concluded the anecdote ominously, saying, “The rest is now history.”
The APC chieftain noted that Daniel later left HF Schroeder to establish his own company in Maryland, Lagos, and ended his post with a philosophical reflection: “Life is a teacher. Life is a journey…”
The revelation has sparked a wave of reactions online, with many readers leaving comments critical of Senator Daniel’s past actions, particularly in light of his well-documented history in the political power struggles of Ogun State.
The story provides a personal and historical perspective on the political figure, adding a new layer to the ongoing public discourse comparing the legacies and personas of Ogun State’s political leaders.
This public airing of grievances adds a deeply personal dimension to the ongoing political tensions within the Ogun State APC. The party’s chapter last week suspended Senator Gbenga Daniel, alongside a loyalist, Kunle Folarin, highlighting the internal strife.
The suspension and Igbokwe’s allegations have also fueled further discussion about the circumstances surrounding Daniel’s acquisition of the Ogun East senatorial ticket in the 2023 general elections, a topic that has been a subject of debate among political observers.
The narrative presents a challenging public relations moment for Senator Daniel, whose political antecedents in Ogun State’s power struggles have often been a point of contention for his critics.
