IJEBU-ODE – In a significant ruling on Monday, the Ogun State High Court has refused to grant an interim injunction sought by popular Fuji musician and aspirant to the Awujale of Ijebuland throne, Otunba Wasiu Olasunkanmi Ayinde (widely known as KWAM 1 or King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall).
Presiding Judge, Hon. Justice A. A. Omoniyi of High Court 3, Ijebu-Ode Judicial Division, held that the application “lacked merit.”
The musician, Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, had filed the application seeking to restrain the Ogun State Government and other respondents from proceeding with the selection process for the next Awujale, pending the determination of his substantive suit. He alleges breaches of the Ogun State Chieftaincy Law and a violation of his right to a fair hearing in the succession process.
While rejecting the request for an interim injunction, Justice Omoniyi ordered an accelerated hearing of the main case. The court fixed January 14, 2026, as the date for the commencement of proceedings.
The ruling allows the traditional selection process to continue for now, while setting the stage for a swift legal confrontation over the historic stool early next year.
