ABEOKUTA —The Ogun State Government has announced that the free entry initiative for the newly renovated Olumo Rock Tourist Complex will end on Saturday, August 23, 2025. The decision comes in response to an unprecedented influx of visitors, which has raised concerns about public safety and potential stampede risks.

The government, in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, expressed its “profound appreciation” to the public for the “overwhelming and unprecedented turnout.” This response, the statement noted, is a testament to the vision of His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, to reposition Olumo Rock as a world-class tourist destination.

Prince Dapo Abiodun initially introduced the free entry initiative to allow residents and visitors to rediscover and appreciate the cultural and historical significance of the site following its renovation. According to the government, this objective has been “fully achieved,” with thousands of visitors taking advantage of the opportunity.

However, the immense volume of the crowd has posed significant safety risks. The statement acknowledged that at certain points, the crowd’s size could have led to a stampede, which was only averted by the “swift and professional intervention of security agencies and on-site personnel.

In prioritising the safety of lives, the government has directed that normal access procedures will resume after Saturday. The Ogun State Government regrets any inconvenience caused by this adjustment and assures the public of its commitment to providing a safe, enjoyable, and memorable experience for all visitors.
