LAGOS, Nigeria – The passenger who allegedly assaulted Ibom Air crew members and security personnel on a flight from Uyo to Lagos has been charged to court and remanded in the Kirikiri correctional facility. Ms. Comfort Emmanson was reportedly arraigned on charges related to her violent conduct on the August 10, 2025 flight.
According to a statement from Tunde Moshood, the special adviser on media and communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Emmanson is now in custody at the correctional facility following her court appearance.
This development follows a press statement released by Ibom Air on Monday, August 11, 2025, detailing the incident. The airline stated that Emmanson’s “unruly” behavior began before takeoff when she refused to switch off her mobile phone. The situation escalated upon arrival in Lagos, where she allegedly physically assaulted a purser and another cabin crew member, and attempted to use a fire extinguisher as a weapon.
The airline had also announced that it has placed a permanent travel restriction on Ms. Emmanson and submitted a report on the incident to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority. The swift legal action against the passenger underscores the aviation industry’s zero-tolerance policy for disruptive and violent behavior that compromises the safety and security of flight operations.
