Popular Fuji musician and traditional titleholder, Otunba Wasiu Olasunkanmi Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1), has formally discontinued his legal action against the Ogun State Government and officials concerning the affairs of the Awujale of Ijebuland’s stool.
The notice of discontinuance, filed at the High Court of Ogun State on Monday, brings an end to the suit which listed the state’s Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Chairman of Ijebu Ode Local Government, and the Chairman of the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council, among others, as respondents.
According to the court document, the claimant decided to withdraw the suit following the withdrawal of certain correspondences from the Ijebu Ode Local Government, which had initially prompted the legal action.
The notice, citing Order 23 of the High Court of Ogun State (Civil Procedure) Rules 2024, states, “The Applicant respectfully prays that the Honourable Court to record the discontinuance of this suit and makes orders as it deems fit.”
The involvement of the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council in the list of respondents highlights that the case was connected to the traditional institution and processes surrounding the Awujale’s throne in Ijebuland.
No further details on the nature of the withdrawn correspondences or the initial cause of action were provided in the filing. The swift discontinuance suggests an amicable resolution or a change in circumstance that made the lawsuit unnecessary.
Representatives for Otunba Wasiu Ayinde and the Ogun State Government have yet to make public statements regarding the development.
